The English Department at Al-Zahraa University for Girls aspires to achieve leadership and excellence in the field of English language teaching and scientific research among its counterparts inside and outside Iraq in all scientific and academic fields by using modern trends in teaching and technology. The department also seeks to be one of the most important linguistic and educational research centers by attracting distinguished teaching and research competencies with experience and academic excellence and motivating them to publish in reputable local and international journals.

 Department Message

 The department dedicates its utmost attention to raising the intellectual, cultural, and educational level of female students by developing their essential cognitive skills in English language, literature, and translation. It provides students with practical and academic support and motivation to become qualified to serve educational institutions, compete in the job market, pursue postgraduate studies, delve into scientific research, serve the community, and contribute to the advancement of the country. This is achieved through the application of systems and standards that contribute to raising the level of graduates and enhancing interaction between the university and the local community. The department also strives to exert further efforts to achieve sustainable development through research and development, faculty training, curriculum development, and openness to other cultures. Furthermore, it aims to prepare and qualify high-quality graduates who can contribute to the service and development of society and meet the demands of the contemporary job market.

 • Training female students to acquire the scientific and life education skills required by the nature of work in middle and high schools and life in a world where challenges and problems have increased.

 • Instilling noble scientific, national, and humanitarian values ​​that respect human dignity regardless of gender, color, religion, or belief.

 • Serving the local community outside the walls of the department by spreading scientific culture that encourages respect for mental and physical work and urges everyone to think and be creative, both materially and spiritually, in all fields of life.

 • Participating in wealth creation and supporting the budget of the department, college and university in return for providing the best consultations and training, addressing problems of scientific education and scientific research, and providing distinguished services to middle and high schools... etc. outside the walls of the university.

 • Dismissal of the services of any instructor, employee, or worker in the department who is unable to provide appropriate training opportunities to raise their work to the level required by international quality and academic accreditation standards.

 • Incorporating learning and teaching technology into the preparation and implementation of all the college’s scientific and professional programs and activities.

 • Communicating with counterpart departments in Iraqi, Arab and non-Arab universities and building bridges of cooperation and exchange of expertise, skills and experiences.

 • Developing human capabilities that are able to improve work, interaction, and response to modern technologies.

Department Objectives

 The department aims to achieve the following goals:

 ● Preparing a generation of highly qualified female teachers with bachelor’s degrees to teach English vocabulary in middle and preparatory schools.

● To graduate specialists who possess the appropriate skills to learn English by focusing on the practical aspect and developing their ability to acquire listening, speaking, reading, writing and performing grammatical structures correctly.

 Training and developing students in scientific research writing and familiarizing them with linguistic and literary theories through research projects.

● Adopting the latest technologies in developing educational programs and curricula by providing multimedia labs and using smart display screens, which contribute to improving the students' level.

 ● Close cooperation with counterpart departments locally and globally through twinning programs and research and scientific collaboration.

 ● Holding seminars, conferences and scientific courses that contribute to the development of teaching staff and students.

 ● Preparing and equipping female students scientifically and psychologically to continue in postgraduate programs after graduation.

 ● Developing the cultural and creative aspect of female students through organizing festivals, forums, and art exhibitions, as well as organizing field visits to various governmental and private educational institutions, hospitals, and charitable organizations.
